BEFORE READING THE INSTRUCTIONS:

•  It is important to understand that boat stands are designed to stabilize the boat, while the keel stands and the use of wood blocks are designed to support the boat’s gross weight.
• We recommend that you always use a minimum of 5 stands or more (6 or more for sailboats).
• Do not allow anyone that is not qualified, experienced or otherwise unauthorized to move or adjust the boat stands when in use.
• Never stand, sit, lie or perform work underneath a boat on boat stands at all times.
• Do not use boat stands to suspend a boat in mid-air.
• Do not place stands on porous, soft or uneven grounds. Use of heavy plywood under the stands is recommended
• Do not use any damaged or old boat stands. Make sure all boat stands are greased prior to use.
• Do not allow anything, such as a canvas or cover, to be tied to your boat stands other than security chains. (See below)
• Never use additional tools to pry, bang or adjust your stands.
• If a boat stand must be removed from underneath a boat, make sure to place 
another stand beside it first for support.
• Boat stands that are left on for long periods of time should be checked frequently 
for safety and security.
• Do not weld or modify boat stands or tops.
• Do not use boat stands to perform jobs for which they are not intended.
• Do not place blocks on top of boat stands or underneath the legs of boat stands 
to increase their reach.
• Always set boat stands in pairs.
• Always use safety chains to secure boat stands together, chaining them together 
from port to starboard.
• Make sure you have read general boat stand instructions and guidelines so you fully 
understand the concept of boat stands prior to use.

The Boat's Supports

In this edition(publishing) of the Logbook of the Captain, we shall answer the most frequent questions about the boat's supports:

  • We recommend you to use least 6 supports
  • Place the remote supports equal from each other along the boat.
  • If the boat is rig, add additional set supports to secure the boat in case of violent winds.
  • Use big wooden blocks or the supports of skittle under the front and the back of the skittle to stabilize the base of the boat.
  • If supports are installed on a loose ground (lung), we recommend you to place a piece of plywood below every support to prevent him from sinking into the ground.
  • Turn the support until it clocks towards the central line of the boat (pic. 2)..

  • Adjust the screw of adjustment of the support with right angle of 90 ° against the hull (pic. 3)
  • Insert a safety chain into the small groove (* of piece Warehouse Marine: AMMAG43516), and aim slowly by pulling the support towards the back. If one of the pairs of side supports faces the skittle or if the skittle is long, cross the safety chain under the skittle then upward the other side (pic. 4)
  • For more stability in the bow, use a support with a head V.

Quantity and size
How choose the good support as my sailboat?
Use least 5 supports. The recommended quantity of supports takes into account the length of the boat. For the rigged sailboats, we recommend an additional pair of supports. If the boat is very heavy to the bow or to the stern, we recommend you to use an additional support to support to reduce the pressure on the hull.
There is also a model with the head V which marries well shape of the bow.

How choose the good support as my motorboat?
Motorboats require a minimum of 4 wooden blocks or supports placed under the hull of the boat. We have to place these last under the room(chamber) of the engine because it is the heaviest part. It will allow to reduce the pressure on the hull. We recommend you to use a minimum of 4 supports for all the motorboats. For the large-sized motorboats (> 33 feet) add 2 additional supports for the support.

You will find in the following list the actions which you should make or avoid making during the installation of your system of boat's supports. This list will allow you to maximize the security any time. She does not apply in a universal way to all the users of supports by boats because of infinite variables in their applications. On the contrary, she must be used as complement to the already taken precautionary measures.

Never forget that the supports of boats serve to stabilize the boat and, the blocking of the skittle, to support the weight of the boat.


To make :

  • Use supports of skittle or blocks, along the axis of the boat to support the weight, always make sure that blocks are neither split in good condition that is nor mined by the decay..
  • Use boat's supports by side pairs, the one placed on the port beam and the other one on the starboard beam
  • Use chains to secure all the side supports of the boat, chaining the supports of port on the starboard beam
  • Use a minimum of four supports by boat, and a pair in every 10 feet (3m) for the longer boats.
  • Use a support with head V under the bow of everything of sailboats with skittle or with heavy bow.
  • Use a support with head V behind the skittle with fins or sailboats with heavy bow.
  • Use supports with boat on a firm ground and of sand; use a piece of plywood under supports in case of soft ground.
  • In the windy regions, remove the mast when you take up the boat on supports; if the mast cannot be put down, use additional supports.
  • Replace any damaged or rusty support
  • Maintain see them greased well to avoid the corrosion.
  • If you have to replace a support under a boat, install at first an other one there close by.
  • If the boat lives on supports during a prolonged period, the latter must be regularly verified to assure the security.

To avoid :

  • Leave non-qualified, inexperienced people or unauthorized to move or to adjust the supports of boat when they are installed.
  • Use the supports of boat to suspend him
  • Fix (to attach) the painting or the cover to the supports of boat
  • Weld or modify the supports of boat or trays
  • Use the supports of boat for other uses for which they are intended
  • Place blocks on the top of the supports of boat or under supports of boat to increase their reach
